Answers to Your Common HVAC Questions

  • Do you offer Financing?

  • Do you offer Warranties?

    Yes, we offer warranties on parts and labor for new installations.  Please call our office at 888-I-DO-COOL (888-436-2665) for additional information.

  • Does my thermostat require batteries?

    Yes, If the display on your thermostat is fading or difficult to read, the first thing we recommend is to change the batteries in your thermostat.  Most thermostats have a battery indicator on the display panel that shows when the batteries are running low.  

  • What humidity setting should be set on the humidifier?

    In Fall and Winter, when the outside temperature drops, the indoor humidity level needs to be adjusted. McQuade Heating and Cooling recommends 35% to 40% as the desired humidification setting.  Our service technicians can adjust the humidifier to help keep the interior of your home comfortable during dry winter months.

  • What should the humidifier be set to – in Winter, in Summer?

    Your humidifier should be on when using your furnace in the fall and winter.  When the outside temperature drops, you need to adjust your indoor humidity level up to the max setting. Our experienced service technicians can help you set your humidifier to the recommended settings to you have comfortable humidity level indoors during the dry winter months. Your humidifier should be off when using your AC in the summer.

  • How often do I need to change my media air filter?

    McQuade Heating and Cooling recommends replacing the media air filter in your air cleaner twice a year.  Media filters are usually four inches wide, or five inches wide.  If there are pets or smokers in the home, filters need to be changed more frequently. 

  • How often do I need to change my furnace filter?

    McQuade Heating and Cooling recommends that you check your furnace filter on a monthly basis and change it as soon as the filter looks dirty or can no longer see through it.  Furnace filters are usually one or two inches wide.  Furnace filters should be changed once a month. If there are pets or smokers in the home, filters must be changed more frequently. 

  • When do I need to change the humidifier pad?

    McQuade Heating and Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration recommends that you change your humidifier pad once a year, at the beginning of your heating season.

  • What cities/areas do you service?

    McQuade Heating and Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration provides exceptional service and installations in Southeast Michigan. Our service area includes Macomb County, Oakland County, and parts of St. Clair County.

  • Do you offer evening appointments? Weekends? After-hours service

    McQuade Heating and Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration’s normal business hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.  Our service appointments are regularly scheduled during this timeframe. We do have technicians on call for emergencies after hours and on weekends and holidays.   • Do I need maintenance on my furnace, AC every year?

    Yes, proper yearly maintenance is important to ensure factory warranty coverage, proper operation, and optimum lifespan of your heating and cooling equipment. McQuade Heating and Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration recommends you set up a maintenance appointment for your AC in the Spring or Summer.  McQuade Heating and Cooling, Plumbing and Refrigeration recommends you set up a maintenance appointment for your furnace or boiler in the Fall or Winter.  Not only does annual maintenance extend the life of your equipment, but also, it allows us to identify any problems that need to be addressed before they turn into larger issues.  Call our office to ask about our Energy Savings Agreement (ESA) that includes a cost savings to the customer.  The ESA includes one AC maintenance appointment in Spring/Summer, and one furnace maintenance or boiler maintenance appointment in Fall/Winter.

  • How long does the average system last?

    The lifespan of your heating and cooling equipment can vary. On average, a typical furnace or air conditioner can last 15-20 years.  With annual maintenance your equipment will provide many years of reliable service.   • Should the fan be set to ON or AUTO on the thermostat?

    The AUTO setting means your fan will run only when your system is heating or cooling the air. The ON setting will continuously blow air , even when the HVAC system is not heating or cooling air.
